Q-Switched Nd:YAG Tattoo removal
The Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser removes tattoos safely & effectively
Service Description
High Energy Ultra-Short Pulses The “Q-switched” part means the laser fires very high-energy pulses in extremely short bursts — typically nanoseconds (billionths of a second). Because the energy is delivered so quickly, it targets the tattoo ink without overheating or damaging surrounding skin tissue. • Ink Pigment Absorption & Fragmentation Tattoo inks are made of pigment particles embedded within the dermis (lower layers of skin). That absorption creates a photoacoustic / photomechanical effect — basically, the energy causes a micro-explosive shockwave that breaks the pigment into much smaller fragments. • Removal by the Body’s Immune System Once the pigment is fragmented into tiny pieces, those fragments become small enough for the body’s immune system — especially macrophages — to engulf and clear them out via the lymphatic system. Over several weeks post-treatment, the tattoo gradually fades as your body processes and eliminates these pigment fragments. Why Nd:YAG is Often the Best Laser for Tattoo Removal Dual wavelengths for different inks: The 1064 nm wavelength is ideal for deep-seated, dark inks like black or blue. The 532 nm wavelength can be used for more superficial or lighter-colored inks (reds, oranges, some greens) or pigmentation issues. Minimal damage to skin: Because the pulses are so short and energy is concentrated on the ink, the surrounding skin remains largely unharmed — reducing risk of scarring, burns or long-term skin damage. What the Treatment Looks Like — What to Expect Multiple sessions needed: Because each session only breaks down a portion of the pigment, 5–20 sessions are often required, spaced roughly 7–8 weeks apart, depending on tattoo size, ink density, colour, and how your skin responds. Downtime is minimal: After a session, most people experience mild redness, possible swelling or tiny blisters, and an appearance similar to mild sunburn. Healing typically completes in days to a couple of weeks, and skin care / sun protection is essential. Results vary by ink colour and skin tone: Darker inks (black, deep blue) respond best. Light inks (white, pastel colours) or poorly placed pigmentation inks may respond less or require more sessions.
